    • Scholarship to Honor our Friend, Linda Van Voorhis Smith

    The Board of NCOSGNA wished to commemorate the life of our dear friend and colleague, Linda VanVoorhis Smith. Linda was an enthusiastic part of our Board. She worked on the Education Committee as well as attending every Board meeting to help with the planning of events for our region. Linda loved attending SGNA's Annual Course. It excited her to learn new things, visit new cities and to network with other nurses from around the country. She looked forward to that week every year. Each year we offer a scholarship to attend the SGNA Annual Course and it will now be known as the Linda VanVoorhis Smith Scholarship for Annual Course. It is our hope that her enthusiasm for this event will live on in the future recipients of this scholarship.

    February 11, 2012

    Welcome to a new and exciting year with NCOSGNA. We have a lot planned for this year. One of our main functions is to provide CEU’s to our members along with all Gastroenterology nurses and associates in our area..This year we have 3 educational opportunities available. So mark your calendar and save the dates.

    • April 28, 2012 will be our spring conference. This year it will be held at Cleveland Clinic Wooster and will be a half day program. (Updated information and registration form at Events page).

    • September 15, 2012 will be our Fall Conference at Walnut Creek. This is also a half day program with an anticipated 3 CEU’s

    • November 10, 2012 is our Annual full day course at Landerhaven. This program is designed to offer 6 CEU’s.

    One of our biggest challenges is arranging speakers. Our board is in need of your help in obtaining speakers and organizing our conferences. If you are interested in helping this worthwhile organization, maybe it is time to join in and make a difference. One of the rewards of being on the board is attending all NCOSGNA conferences free of charge. We also have allotted money to send the board members to the National SGNA Conference. For all the hospitals that have Clinical ladders, involvement in any professional organization looks good. Many hospitals are trying for magnet status and having staff members active in their local organizations is expected.

    Don’t forget to visit NCOSGNA.org and SGNA.org for important information on the following:

    • March is Colorectal Cancer awareness month

    • March 28, 2012 is GI Nurses and Associates Day.

    • Annual Course in Phoenix Arizona from May 18th - May 23rd.
