Scholarship to Honor our Friend, Linda Van Voorhis Smith
The Board of NCOSGNA wished to commemorate the life of our dear friend and colleague, Linda VanVoorhis Smith. Linda was an enthusiastic part of our Board. She worked on the Education Committee as well as attending every Board meeting to help with the planning of events for our region. Linda loved attending SGNA's Annual Course. It excited her to learn new things, visit new cities and to network with other nurses from around the country. She looked forward to that week every year. Each year we offer a scholarship to attend the SGNA Annual Course and it will now be known as the Linda VanVoorhis Smith Scholarship for Annual Course. It is our hope that her enthusiasm for this event will live on in the future recipients of this scholarship.
2011 Fall Education Course
One hundred twenty five GI nurses and associates enjoyed the wonderful food and surroundings at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights while learning and earning CEUs. Six speakers spoke on a variety of GI subjects, including treatment of GERD; Plavix and proton pump inhibitors; benign anorectal conditions; fatty liver disease and hepatocellular cancer. They also learned how to help patients cope with colorectal cancer from a motivational speaker who is a survivor. In addition, participants had the opportunity to meet with twenty one GI related vendors to network and learn about new products. We are already working on the program for 2012, so mark your calendars now for November 10th. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact any board member.
